Cracker

1990 – Virginia, (EEUU)

Cracker was band formed in 1990 in Virginia (USA) by David Lowery and Johnny Hickman. Although they are often associated with the wave of 1990s alternative rock, their approach has always been much broader, effortlessly blending country-rock, punk, folk, hard rock, and Americana. Their continued relevance was evident recently when they performed at Sala BBK in November and sold out all tickets in record time, a testament to the enduring connection they maintain with their audience. Their early albums, especially “Kerosene Hat” (1993), brought them international recognition with songs like “Low,” “Teen Angst,” and “Eurotrash Girl,” which over the years have become true generational anthems.

Over the following decades, Cracker continued releasing diverse and adventurous albums, building a solid reputation as a live band while maintaining a loyal fan base. However, the way music is consumed today has meant that many new listeners only discover them through algorithmic playlists focused on their early hits, leaving out an important and highly valued part of their discography. To provide a more complete view of their career, the band conceived “Alternative History”, a collection made up of re-recordings, collaborations, demos, and live performances. More than a simple greatest hits compilation, it is an alternative way of telling their story, from transformed versions like the country-rock take on “Sick of Goodbyes” to live performances in Germany and Madrid, including lesser-known gems and almost foundational pieces like “Father Winter.”

With more than thirty years of experience, Cracker continues to stand out for their independent spirit, characteristic humor, and ability to reinvent themselves without losing their identity. Their legacy goes beyond the label of alternative rock: it is the work of a band that has learned to write, revisit, and expand its own story.
